The bare forests of winter are now fertile and robust with new life. The dark days of winter are now a fading memory.
We take joy in the vast abundance and glory of new life and new cycles. We hold optimism and strong intention for a bountiful autumn. But at this moment during the longest, most light-filled day of the year, we must not forget the balance of life and death. The continuous cycle of rebirth. As of June 21st, the days begin to shorten as darkness of the night grows.
Our neighbors in the Southern Hemisphere are celebrating the start of their Winter. As crops slowly die and winter takes over, the cycle of life is once again close to restarting. As of June 21st, your days will begin to get longer as darkness fades into light.
Wherever you are in the world, I urge you to spend time appreciating your space on this Earth.
Whether your days are now growing or receding, this special day holds significance in finding balance in your life and your practice of Witchcraft. Whether this means exploring your light or learning to celebrate your darkness, this day can be profound.
Regardless of where you are on this Earth, I recommend greeting the sun in the early morning hours of the longest (Northern Hemisphere) or shortest (Southern Hemisphere) day of the year. This need not be a formal ritual, as you will already be in the sacred energy of the Sun. A simple meditation outdoors will be more powerful than any drawn out ritual described in new age books. Allow the rays of the sunrise to gently caress your skin. Allow it to seep into the very part of you that seeks to welcome a new life experience. A change. A new path. The end to a part of you that no longer serves you. Breathe in the light. Sit quietly. Hold this energy with you throughout the day.
Wishing you a profound & magickal Solstice!
Light & Darkness,
