Spell Remnants: 15 Ways to Properly Dispose Of Spellwork Remains

4/27/2015

What To Do With Spell Leftovers Old World Witchcraft Spellwork
What you do with the remains of your spell (wax, photos, ashes, etc.) is just as important as the spell itself!

The spellwork does not end when the candles and the incense extinguish.

The spellwork is not complete until you return the remnants back to the Earth.

The Earth and the universal energy carry and propel your magick and your spellwork to its full completion.

Make sure your disposal method does not contradict your desired outcome by completing your spellwork following the disposal methods outlined below:

Method of disposal

When To Use

Spell Type Examples

Burying in your Backyard
To maintain desired circumstance, finances, a person or a possession in your life.
  • Marriage spells
  • Prosperity spells
  • Protection spells
  • Harmonious family spells

Burying in your Front Yard
To welcome something new into your life.
  • Attract NEW love spells
  • New career/life-path spells
  • Attract a new experience, such as travel
  • Health spells
  • Marriage proposal spells

Burying in the Cemetery
To curse, harm or kill a person. Or to end undesirable  circumstance or habits in your life.

Leave a few coins and/or pieces of candy at the cemetery gate as you leave. Take a different route home. Do not look back or look over your shoulder as you leave.
  • Curses
  • Banishment spells

Burying in a Targets Yard/Property
To curse, bless or to influence a specific person or family.

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder.
  • Curse the target
  • Love spells
  • Protection spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells

Burying at a Business Property
To curse, bless or to influence a specific business or employee of the business.

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder.
  • Curse the business or employee of the business
  • Protection spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells
  • Prosperity spells

Releasing Into a Stream/River/Natural Lakes/Ocean

To release negative circumstances or emotions. To deliver a curse or influence a person in a distant or unknown location.

  • Banishment spells
  • Spells to release emotional pain
  • Love spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells

Releasing into Man-Made Lakes/Reservoirs

Man-made lakes usually do not have streams or rivers that carry water in or out. Therefore the energy tends be fairly stagnant.
If you live on the man-made lake, refer to the Burying in the Backyard list of circumstances and uses.  Otherwise, stay away.

Releasing Into Ponds or Swamps

Ponds and swaps usually have stagnant energy. If you do not live near one, you may use these natural bodies of water for cursing.
  • Curses

If you live on/near the pond or swamp, refer to the 'Burying in the Backyard' list of circumstances and uses.

Leaving On Active Railroad Tracks

To release negative circumstances. To deliver a curse or influence a person in the direction of the running train(s).

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder. Avoid the train and railroad tracks for at least 3 nights.
  • Curses
  • Banishment spells
  • Spells to release emotional pain
  • Love spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells

Leaving On Abandoned Railroad Tracks

To separate yourself or other people from each other or a situation.
  • Banishment spells
  • Break-up spells

Leaving At A Road Intersection

To release negative circumstances. To deliver a curse or influence a person in an unknown location.

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder.
  • Curses
  • Banishment spells
  • Release personal emotional pain
  • Love spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells

Leaving On A Road In The Lane of the Direction Of Your Target
To deliver a curse or influence a person in the direction of  the traffic lane.

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder.
  • Curses
  • Influence/manipulation spells
  • Love spells on a specific person

Leaving At A Targets Front Door/Driveway

The most direct way to curse or to influence.

Remnants must be inconspicuous and discreet. Such as ashes mixed with a bit little dirt.

If cursing, take a different route home, do not look back or look over your shoulder.
  • Curses
  • Love spells
  • Influence/manipulation spells
  • Protection spells.

Blowing/Throwing Ashes
(When you only have ashes from paper, without any wax)
General all-purpose release of spellwork energy into the universe.
  • Blow in the direction of the target to curse or influence
  • Love spells
  • Prosperity spells
  • Protection spells
  • Healing spells

Throwing Into A Fire

To release negative circumstances. To deliver a curse or influence a person in an unknown location.

If cursing, it is recommended the fire is not on your property grounds.
Please practice fire safety – only you can prevent forest fires! ;)
  • Curses
  • Banishment spells
  • Spells to release emotional pain

*Banishment spells refer to any spellwork where the desired goal is to remove or end undesirable conditions, circumstances, people or habits.
Magick is nature. Releasing spellwork back into nature completes the cycle of manifestation.
Learn to align with this cycle and watch the success of your spellwork dramatically increase!

So what does one do if they do not have a front yard or a back yard?

If you live in an apartment building you may still use the same principles as burying in the front or back of the building. Alternatively, you may grow an indoor plant (such as an orchid) and place it near your front door or in the far back of your apartment.

I poured sea salt over the reminances and sprinkled scented ashes over it and put it back in the bag I carried it in and then planted a fruit tree seed where I was doing the spell. I then walked it over to the dumpster and left it. The next day it rained and I knew it was done and that my peach tree was accepted as an it was presented which was for positive reasons with great intentions. Please tell me how you feel about that Ms.Dacha Aveline.

What was the intention and purpose of the spell?

It was a a mirror spell for the negativity that was surrounding me through various people about 5 in total. My intentions were to keep my positive space blessings and keepsakes and repell all the blockage that which they had in the form or negativity.

Okay, got it. I think you did a fine job and hopefully nothing interferes, but in the future you may want to think about separating the spellwork into two (or possibly three) different parts.

Part I: Mirror spell for reversing/removing negativity
Part II: Blessing spell
Part III (optional): Protection spell

The disposal method you used has contradicting energies and methods.

For all banishment work (mirror work, curses, etc.), you want to dispose of the work in an area where no life (or very little life) exists. Preferably graveyard, an abandoned property... or even simply out in nature. Planting a seed into negativity simply encourages the regrowth of negativity, though I know you meant it to neutralize the negativity.

Do not worry - what's done is done. You can handle anything that comes your way.

Best of luck!

I am always surprised, though I guess I shouldn't be, at how I naturally do what's "right", when it comes to my Craft. I have disposed of my remains of spell work, in ways that you describe, without conscious thought. Thank you for a great site!

Some times if all the right intentions are there you can dispose on the time you need for the spell to work earth is slow so say a bad habit that you don't want to disappear over night cause of side affects so you need spell to work over time or can bury in your garden with love and then I use things out of my garden flowers vegetables an air depending on how hard it's blowing could be slow or fast magik ,fire is very fast an water also depends on where an how fast the flow is say a river compared to the ocean I have actually used all of your methods also but some times I go by the elemental time of how fast or slow I need it To work thank you great site great info

There are many different kinds of mirror spells, all with ranging intentions and consequences. Therefore, without knowing your exact purpose of the spell, it is quite difficult to tell you which method is right for you.

I suggest re-reading the stated disposal methods and dispose of the mirror using the technique that closest resembles your desired outcome.

In addition to what is stated, you may bury it reflective side down in a cemetery - just not above a grave.

I live on a manmade lake, it's in my backyard. I have been disposing my remnants in my backyard which is where I perform the spells. Would a manmade lake ever be a good place to dispose of remnants, say for a banishing spell or break-up spell?

My circumstance is that I met someone and she was perfect. I did make a mistake, however I would like to redeem myself. If I were to move forward with a love spell, although she has a very strong frame (personality) and can be kind of cold toward men due to negative past experiences, she will be receptive. However, we were so well connected, but her worst influence is her best friend. My gut told me her best friend was jealous, and encourages her to do things. They are their support system. How would you recommend making her friend disappear? I do not know exactly which spells are the right category for this. ~~Thank You Ms. Dacha

You have two ways to go about disposing remnants from a break-up spell. First, you may divide the remnants in half and anonymously (!) send each half to the parties involved. Or, you may simply use any of the Banishment or Curse methods outlined above.
