As summer's blooms turned their fragrant heads towards autumn's call, we now celebrate Autumn Equinox. This morning we are waking up to (almost) equal hours of darkness and light.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the days become a bit cooler and shorter each day. While summer has left us with the beautiful leaves of turning gold, the winter is swiftly approaching. The gardens will soon begin to die in preparation to be reborn into a new beginning. As the sun enters Libra, it is a time of balance and to celebrate new endings with the promise of new prosperous beginnings.
The Full Moon on Monday, September 24th is called the Harvest Moon, as it occurs within 2 weeks of the Autumn Equinox. New life paths will come to light as we move forward with the Earthly tasks at hand. Now is the time to respond to life with decisive action, rather than mere contemplation. It is now a time to walk away from what no longer serves us and honor what is sacred and true.
Those that are currently performing the Opulence Ritual leading up the Harvest Moon, know that your rituals are energetically calling upon the changing of the seasons and that the Spring will bring mind-bending, life-changing events.
For the next 5 weeks, focus on clearing away stagnant energy and ask the spirits of your ancestors to assist you and guide you into the new season.
The upcoming Dark Moon of October 8th will be particularly powerful for making ancestral contact, especially with spirits whom we have personally known in this incarnation. For communication with the deceased, I recommend the Oracle Ritual Blend, as it attracts helpful spirits --particularly ancestral spirits.
While we in the Northern Hemisphere are celebrating endings, our dear Witches in the Southern Hemisphere are celebrating beginnings with the arrival of Spring Equinox. I urge those in the Southern Hemisphere to celebrate within their own seasons rather than relying on European text for spiritual celebrations and dates. Being in rhythm with your local seasons, flora & fauna and other Earthly influences is the natural lifestyle of the Witch.
Every 19 months, Venus goes retrograde and forces us to deal with the emotional baggage of low self-worth, failed friendships and romance. Old lovers come out of the woodwork during this transit and make themselves known - sometimes for only a short while or, on rare occasion, they come back to us for life.
Key themes during Venus Retrograde also involve:
Starting September 2nd, when the initial Venus shadow period is present, you will begin getting clues to what this retrograde will be about for you - on a personal, deep level. Pay attention to your dreams and your emotions. For some, this transit will be about learning not to overspend on "confidence building" shoes, handbags and other mindless impulse buys. For others, this transit will be about dealing with emotional baggage. If you have been debating whether or not to leave a relationship or friendship, you will gain great clarity before the end of September.
Starting October 5th, Venus goes retrograde and will greatly expand on your feelings and ideas from September.
Venus goes direct on November 16th, but does not leave the shadow phase until mid-December. This means the impacts of Venus Retrograde will remain with us until then. Meanwhile, Libra will be in conjunction to Venus and will open new doors to social engagements and very pleasant wintertime experiences. As false friends and undeserving lovers exit our lives, prepare for new joyous beginnings at the Winter Solstice.
Useful spells (and dates!) to perform during Venus Retrograde listed below:
October 5th - 8th is an ideal time for banishment rituals. The Dark Moon and the energy of Venus Retrograde can assist with banishing old lovers, false friends, backstabbers or those who wish you harm. Slippery Elm Powder is ideal for this type of work. Step-by-step instructions for 4 different Slippery Elm rituals are provided on the product page.
October 12th and October 20th If wanting to welcome new love into your life or increase self-love, perform the Bloom Into Love Ritual between the Witch's New Moon and the Waxing Moon, ideally starting between October 12th and 20th.
October 17th: Venus Retrograde can transform our finances - both how we obtain money and how we manage it. The Opulence Ritual should be started on October 17th (8 days before the Full Harvest Moon). This long-term wealth ritual will put you on the road to financial independence and success.
Love & Magick,
Keep in mind...
Astrological events are similar to acts of weather. Some people choose to dance in the wind and the rain. Others stay indoors. Your reaction, your mental attitude and your choice of thoughts will create your own experience and outcome.
