Karma. Law of Return. Sins. Threefold Law. However you choose to label it, it was all created by mankind with the intent of controlling the masses. These are nothing more than dogmatic terminologies meant to suppress or control.
The existence of karma is particularly a very controversial topic within the spiritual community - often to the point that the rejection of the karma concept is perceived as blasphemous. The modern day "what goes around comes around" interpretation of karma is nothing more than a Judeo-Christian mutilation of an Eastern concept. Effectively inserting a god where there wasn’t one before. A celestial deed elevator, in a sense.
Many in the West have a notion that the Universe firmly knows right from wrong, good from evil. Worse yet, people sometimes avoid standing up for themselves in fear of negative universal retribution. But sit back for a second and think about it: why would a Universe that's ever growing and ever expanding come up with such a black and white distinction of what's right and wrong?
After all, we all know someone who thinks abortion or even contrapectives are "wrong". Yet many parts of the modern world safely prevent or terminate pregnancy without repercussions or guilt. Others believe eating animals is an abomination. Often these two polarizing ideologies are quite interlinked. As in, many that oppose pregnancy prevention are frequently avid consumers of animal flesh. And those that value animal welfare often have a more relaxed view of human reproduction.
It's all a matter of belief structure.
If you believe eating pork or preventing/terminating pregnancy will lead to negative consequences, and keep obsessing about it, inevitably something undesirable will happen. And when something as silly as a parking violation happens to you, your brain will automatically assume "it must be karma!" or "God must be upset with me!". Just stop. The Universe/God/Karma has nothing to do with it.
The universe does not have a celestial evaluator: a god that reprimands and returns your actions. The concept that karma is some kind of universal evaluation or judgement is simply false. If karma existed, mankind would have been exterminated a long time ago.
This exact philosophy holds true when it comes to magick. If you believe that you are partaking in a suitable, justified action, then relax in the knowing that you are on your right path.
A Witch does not let society define his/her path. The Universe isn't black and white. There is no right and wrong. There is only energy and emotion. Stay true to yourself, even if it means mixing the shades.
The 3-Fold Lie & The Wiccan Rede: Lies of New Age Witchcraft
Gerald Gardner is internationally renowned as "The Father of Wicca" - a religion many people nowadays associate with witchcraft. He was the "groundbreaking" mover & shaker of the spiritual scene in 1940's/1950's and a follower of Aleister Crowley's work.
Gerald Gardner saw the power in Crowley's work but was eager to make it more "consumer friendly" by highlighting the peaceful Pagan aspects of the practice and intertwining Greek and Celtic mythology. Based on his personal religious views, he concocted a little poem titled 'The Wiccan Rede', which states whatever you send out comes back to you. If you're at all familiar with Aleister Crowley's writings, you'll see the Wiccan Rede is essentially a Scrabble game of Crowley's work. Inserting dogma and fear where there wasn't any before. The exact same holds true for the 'Threefold Law'.
Gerald Garner’s dogmatic approach to witchcraft created the the new age religion known as Wicca. In Wicca, magickal actions involving manipulative magick became taboo and strongly frowned upon. Punishment and external celestial validation of right vs. wrong was once again the order of the day.
Make no mistake, Wicca is not an ancient practice. It is a new age religion. But it is one that is readily available in the developed world and often serves as a stepping stone to new witches. Those that discover the shallow and faulty principles of Wicca often dig deeper - discovering the academic study of the occult and the various branches of worldly witchcraft. As a result, this broader study of Witchcraft broadens the horizon of the Witch and deepen the magickal experiences.
