Witches are Sensitives. Unless we are consciously prepared to block peoples energy, we automatically pick up the vibration of our surroundings. Sadly, many people in this world carry negativity, hatred and anxiety.
After spending time with groups of people (such as in concerts, shopping malls or at clubs) do you feel physically ill? Do you feel that it takes time to energetically wash away the feeling? After having to be in social situations for any length of time do you feel like you need to be alone for several days?
These are all symptoms of a sensitive (and often damaged) energetic barrier. As a result, we need to consciously develop and strengthen our energetic barrier. And to be honest with you, this will likely be a lifelong practice in one way or another.
If running off into an isolated cottage in the woods isn't an option for you (at least at this moment), this Spiritual Protection Spell will heal and strengthen your energetic barrier. I like to perform this spell the morning after the Dark Moon, preferably after I have already done a Banishing Spell (though that is not required).
The beauty of this Spiritual Protection Spell is that it can be done during absolutely any phase of the moon, and it's easy enough to quickly perform if you know you will be entering an unpleasant atmosphere or situation.

As with all spellwork, your altar surface must be fireproof. A stone or thick metal tray works well. (This is what I use)
Take a deep breath and allow your body and your mind to relax.
Breathe out stress, breathe in joy.
Breathe out worry, breathe in comfort.
Breathe out tension, breathe in serenity.
Gather the 4 candles in your hand, make sure they are lined up evenly. While holding the bottom of the candles, begin to gently twist start from the top. The motion is similar to wringing out wet laundry. Fists twisting in opposite directions.
The bottoms (or legs) of the candles should be untwisted for the last one inch of the candles.
Spread each of the candle legs to 4 opposing sides, creating a compass rose.
This action does two things:
1) It acts as a self-contained candle holder.
For this type of work, I prefer using Palo Santo, as it leaves minimal ash and smells the most pleasant to me.
